The Hampta Pass Trek is one of the most dramatic and visually diverse treks in the Indian Himalayas, located in Himachal Pradesh. Starting from Jobra, near Manali, the trek spans around 4 to 6 days and covers approximately 26–30 kilometres, making it accessible yet thrilling for both beginners and seasoned trekkers.
The trail showcases a stunning contrast in landscapes—lush green forests of deodar, pine, and maple in the Kullu Valley, gradually giving way to the stark, rugged, and barren terrain of Lahaul and Spiti. At the heart of the trek lies Hampta Pass, perched at an altitude of around 14,100 feet, offering panoramic views of snow-capped peaks, dramatic valleys, and glaciers.
One of the key highlights of the trek is the optional visit to the mesmerizing Chandratal Lake—a high-altitude alpine lake with crystal-clear blue waters, set against the backdrop of the Spiti mountains. The trek also includes river crossings, camping beside scenic meadows like Chikha and Balu ka Ghera, and climbing over rocky terrain and snowy trails.
Thanks to its relatively moderate difficulty, well-defined path, and stunning variation in scenery, the Hampta Pass Trek is a favourite for those looking to experience the Himalayas in a short yet unforgettable journey.
