Mainpat, nestled in the Surguja district of Chhattisgarh, is a hidden gem often dubbed the “Shimla of Chhattisgarh” or “Mini Tibet.” This offbeat hill station sits at an altitude of about 1,100 meters and offers a blend of natural beauty, adventure, and cultural charm.

Surrounded by dense forests, rolling meadows, and waterfalls like Tiger Point and Fish Point, Mainpat is ideal for nature lovers and peace seekers. The region is also home to a significant Tibetan refugee community, giving it a unique cultural flavour. The Dhakpo Shedupling Monastery adds a touch of spiritual calm to the landscape, while spots like Jaljali (a strange bouncing land) and Thinthini Patthar (a resonating rock) offer quirky and fascinating experiences.

Adventure enthusiasts can enjoy activities like paragliding, trekking, and exploring lesser-known trails. The weather remains cool and pleasant from November to March, making it the best time to visit. Easily accessible via Ambikapur (about 55 km away), Mainpat offers a quiet, refreshing alternative to crowded hill stations—a perfect getaway for those looking to explore something different.

Day 1: JHARSUGUDA TO MAINPAT

We’ll reach to Jharsuguda station (Odisha) and then our next destination will be IB bridge and IB waterfall along the river IB, then we’ll have our breakfast and visit Sudhar bagicha, another beautiful waterfall. We’ll hike a short distance to the Manipat Hill viewpoint, and we can assure you will be mesmerised. In the evening, we can visit the local Tibetan monastery and explore the market area.

Day 2: MAINPAT SIGHTSEEING

After breakfast, we will witness a mind-blowing creation of nature and one of the main attractions, Ulta paani, where water flows from the bottom to up. Then we’ll visit Dhakpo monastery, Ramgarh Cave, and Gaghi Jalaprapat. After lunch next destination will be Jaljali Point, Fish Point, New monastery.

Day 3: MAINPAT TO JHARSUGUDA

After breakfast, we’ll visit Tiger point, Tiger waterfall, Rampaluga lake and back to the Jharsuguda railway station with lots of memories. On the way, we’ll have our lunch. The natural beauty of this place will remain in your mind forever.
