The Likir to Chilling Trek is a scenic and culturally rich short trek in Ladakh, ideal for beginners and those seeking an offbeat experience. Spanning 3 to 5 days, the trail begins at Likir, home to a historic monastery, and ends at Chilling, a village near the Zanskar River known for traditional metal craftsmanship.
Along the way, trekkers pass through serene villages like Yangthang, Hemis Shukpachan, and Temisgam, crossing gentle mountain passes such as Phobe La and Mebtak La. The route offers panoramic views of arid mountains, green oases, and Buddhist monasteries, while also providing opportunities to stay in village homestays and interact with locals.
Best undertaken between June and September, the trek combines natural beauty, cultural immersion, and moderate physical challenge, making it a favorite for those wanting to experience the soul of Ladakh away from the crowds.
Day 01:
- Early morning flight from Delhi to Leh, transfer to hotel and full day rest. Guest house.
Day 02:
- Day trip to visit Shey, Thikse and Hemis monasteries. Guest house.
Day 03:
- Visit Matho Stakna monasteries and Stok palace. Guest House.
Day 04 :
- Drive to Likir, around 65 kms from Leh, Visit, Spituk, Phyang and Likir monastery and then walk down to camp from Likir monastery 01 hrs walk. Camp at Likir.
Day 05:
- Start trek from Likir with couple of small passes. easy walk of 45 minutes takes you to the Phobe La. And after 3 hrs walk of ascent you will reach to Chagatse La, 3650m. Again 30 minutes of easy walk on route to reach Yangthang Village. Overnight in camp.
Day 06 :
- Yangthang to Hemis Shukpachan, 3 hours. Leave Yangthang for Hemis via Tsermangchen La, 3750m, a short and pleasant walk, arriving in Hemis Shukpachan by afternoon. For the rest of the day explore the village. Overnight in camp.
Day 07:
- Hemis Shukpachan to Temisgam, 5 hours. Leave village and proceed towards Temisgam via Maptek La, 3750m. Crossing the pass, fine view of Ang village opens up, trail follows down to Temisgam. Visit a ruined fort and a small monastery up on the hill. Overnight in camp.
Day 08:
- Temisgang to Lamyuru drive 2 hrs jeep visit Lamayuru monastery and then Trekto Wanla.The trail heads down the valley before turning east to Prinkitila (3506m). Descend from the pass to the scenic village of Wanla. 3/4 hrs walk, Camp overnight.
Day 09: Hinju
- Follow a nice wide path till the village of Penji from where you leave the main trail and head up the Ripchar valley to Hinju. 5/6 hrs walk.. Overnight Camp.
Day 10: Base of Konzela
- Continue up the valley to grazing areas which support the village summer camps to camp at the base of Konzela. 4/5 hrs walk, Overnight Camp.
Day 11: Sumda Pullu
- Begin a short but steep climb to Konzela (4950m)for views of the Zanskar range.A long and steep descent brings you to a camp of Sumda Pullu .5/6 hrsWalk,Overnight Camp..
Day 12: Lanak Base

Day 13: Chilling (3390m)
- Follow the left bank of the river to the village of Sumda then go up the ridge to another pass - Dunduchunla (4435m) and descend to camp near the village of Chilling, the inhabitants of whom are the only ones who are the main metal workers making Ladakhi copper utensils. 6/7 hrs walk.
Day 14: Chilling – Leh.
- Jeep drive. Guest house.
Day 15: Leh – Delhi
- Airport or railway station drop .
