RUMTSE-TSOMORIRI TREK

The Rumtse to Tso Moriri trek is a high-altitude adventure through the rugged and remote landscapes of Ladakh, spanning approximately 90–100 km over 7–10 days. Starting from the village of Rumtse, located at around 4,100 meters, the trek takes you through alpine valleys, wide plains, and high mountain passes, such as Kyamar La and Yarlung Nyau La, reaching altitudes of over 5,400 meters.

The trail offers stunning views of barren deserts, salt flats, and shimmering lakes, with the highlight being Tso Moriri Lake (4,522 meters). This serene lake, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, is one of India's largest high-altitude lakes and a designated Ramsar wetland. Along the way, trekkers encounter the Changpa nomads, famous for their pashmina goats and yaks, and may spot wildlife such as kiangs (wild asses) and black-necked cranes.

This trek is challenging, with varying terrain and high-altitude passes, making it ideal for experienced trekkers seeking both physical challenge and an immersion in Ladakh’s natural and cultural beauty.

Day 01: Leh

Arrive early morning into Leh by your flight, and transfer to Leh Guest House. Full day rest to acclimatize at the altitude of 3500 mtr.

Day 02: Sight seeing

Shey, Thiksey, and Hemis monasteries/ Shey is the castle of the first king of Ladakh , Lachen Palgogon and of successive dharmarajas, there is a sacred copper- gilt statue of lord Budha three storey in height. Thiksey monastery was build by the great translator Sherap Zangpo around 550 years ago. Hemis monastery is the largest and most famous monastery in Ladakh founded by Staktsang sraspa. Overnight Guesst House Leh.

Day 03 : Leh- Rumtse

After breakfast drive 03 hrs to to arrive Rumtse village, after lunch explore the beautiful village of Rumtse, Overnight camp.

Day 04: Rumtse - Kyamar (04/05 hrs)

Today we have a short walk on a rather flat terrain to aid acclimatization, overnight camp.

Day 05: Kyamar- Tisaling (6-7 hrs)

We begin with gradual ascent towards our first pass of Kyamar La (4800 m), which gives a spectacular view of the Changthang range, we steadily descend towards the base of the next pass. Here we might come across nomads with their herds of sheep, goats and yaks. After continued towards Mandalchan La (4850 m). From this pass it's an easy descend to the camping site at the pastureland of Tisaling.Overnight camp.

Day 06: Tisaling to Panganugu (6-7 hrs)

After breakfast continued toward your third pass Shibuk la 4900 mtr, magnificent view of surrounding mountains and Tsokar Lake. After go down towards the valley accompanied by the shrill whistles of the shy and active marmots, then continued towards Tsokar lake, camp near the lake. Overnight camp.

Day 07: Ponganagu - Nuruchan (5/6 hrs)

This morning we follow a dusty jeep road along Tsokar lake, Along the salty shores of the lake, we have a rare impeccable opportunity to see some of the endangered migratory birds of the world, keeping to a barren land until Nuruchan. Overnight camp.

Day 08: Nuruchan- Rachungkaru (3-4 hrs)

Today it’s a tough day, We will cross the icy cold stream in Nuruchan before gradually ascending Horlam Kongka La (4900 m). From the pass, we will encounter several typical Tibetan nomads with their flock of yaks, sheep and pashmina goats. Then we will continue to ascend the Kyamayuru La (5410 m); From the pass we descend gradually to the valley towards our campsite at Gyamar Barma (5150 m) Overnight camp.

Day 09: Gyamar Barma - Gyamar (3-4 hrs)

After breakfast continued towards Kartse la 5280 mtr, on the way we can see a lot of Yak, Ascending slowly in the thin air of the plateau, we will eventually reach the pass. The trail leads gradually down to the lush green valley of the Gyamar. Overnight camp.

Day 10: Gyamar - Korzok (6-7 hrs)

After breakfast gradually ascend towards the last and highest pass of the trek Yalung Nyalung la 5450 mtr, from the top magnificent view of Tsomoriri Lake and beautiful view of snowcapped mountains then descend steeply 02 hrs to arrive Korzok village near Tsomoriri Lake. Overnight camp.

Day 11: Korzok - Leh (7 hrs drive)

After breakfast drive back to Leh.

Day 12:

Departure for Delhi.
